When I was in the 8th grade & Hopper was in the 9th grade, we had to deal with the inevitable homecoming dance. Our school had a strict rule that you had to be a high school student in order to attend this dance, which ruled out Hopper's 8th grade girlfriend..me. I was so bummed that our school would not budge on this rule. I felt bad, because this was Hopper's first big dance in high school & I wasn't allowed to go.
Naturally, Hopper didn't want anything to do with this dance if I wasn't invited, which was SUPER sweet but I felt TERRIBLE that he was missing it.
On that Friday, Hopper & I went & met up at the Friday night football game as per usual. Due to Hopper being a freshman football player, he had to work one half of the game in the concession stand. After he worked his shift, he met me in the student section where I stood with Hopper & the rest of his friends & cheered on the Saints.
After the game, & probably after eating at Chili's or Huey's, Hopper & I headed to my parent's house. Once we arrived at my parent's house, Hopper told me that he had a surprise for me. He had made a playlist full of songs that I loved for me & him to dance to in my parent's backyard since we had to miss the homecoming dance. He plugged in my mom's twinkly lights that hung over the deck outside & then he plugged his phone into the surround sound speakers. It seriously was one of the sweetest moments in my life. I was not expecting it & to be honest, we had a blast just us two dancing like fools in my backyard under the twinkly lights & stars.
While looking back at my serious relationship that I was in at such a young age, I realize that there were defining moments. Hopper skipping the homecoming dance & creating our own homecoming dance in my backyard was definitely a defining moment in our relationship, which led me to adore him even more.

xoxo
