While getting engaged on Christmas Eve 2017, I have had plenty of time to plan every detail leading up to June 8, 2019. This 18 month engagement has truly been a blessing for me as I plan this wedding while still being a full time student away from home.
After getting engaged, one of the first things I thought about was the photographer. I am a big picture person & I am very picky on who takes my pictures. After looking at many many many websites, I was feeling discouraged because I hadn't seen anyone who truly WOWED me. That was until I came across the website of Patrick Remington. Patrick had the eye that I was looking for & after viewing his website, I immediately booked him for the job. On May 16, 2018, Hopper & I got to meet Patrick in person & shoot our engagement photo session. The session went seamlessly & we had a blast working with Patrick & his incredible sense of creativity. Below is a timeline of our day.
1:00 pm - Drive from Memphis to Oxford
I left my home in Memphis at 1:00 pm for a 5:00 pm photo shoot because I am a "type-A" person & wanted to have plenty of room for mistakes. I hate feeling rushed & I do not want to be upset if something causes us to run a little late... & by "late" I mean on my time clock, not everyone else's time clock.

2:15 pm - Arrive in Oxford & get hair done
While being a student at the University of Mississippi, I am fortunate to have a house that I rent in Oxford. I chose my house in Oxford to be my "hair salon." My hair dresser, who is also one of my best friends, Heather Sappenfield, drove down to Oxford to do my hair for the shoot. She is a real life angel & oh so talented! She is the only person in the world that can get my hair to stay put in the south's extreme humidity.

3:45 pm - Leave Oxford House for The Jefferson
While my Oxford house is about 7 minutes away from The Jefferson (our wedding venue), I wanted to get there early so that I was waiting on my makeup artist & not the other way around. (I HATE when people have to wait on me... it is one of my pet peeves.)

4:30 pm - Get Makeup Done
Many people would think I am crazy if they knew that this was the first time I met this makeup artist & this was the first time she ever did my makeup. Risky, I know, but it worked out so well. Marti Mills has traveled with successful makeup artists like Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, & a few others. I knew that if someone had worked with these outstanding makeup artists, they would be more than capable of doing my makeup for my engagement shoot & I was right.

5:00 pm - Change into engagement photo outfit
I was very picky on what I wanted to wear for these pictures, because these are the pictures that last a lifetime. I found my outfit at Neiman Marcus in Dallas while I was visiting my sister aka my MOH in March. I chose this outfit for many different reasons. Like any other girl in the world, I am not too fond of my legs, therefore, I wanted a pair of pants that would make me feel confident while posing for 1000 pictures. I loved these high-waisted pants that the department store tailored to my body because they flowed away from my legs in all of the right places. I chose this intricate lace jacket because it was different from anything else I have ever seen & it hid my arms (another part of my body that I am not always fond of in pictures... go figure). Originally, I was going to wear the jacket like a top (it had buttons that buttoned all the way up) & call it a day. However, a week before the day of the pictures, my mom suggested that I find a top for under the jacket, so that I had "options." Side note: ALWAYS listen to your mom, she really does know best. I looked high & low for the perfect top that also looked cute with the jacket. I never actually found one that I liked to go UNDER the jacket, so I had come to terms with having a "top change" at some point in the session. As I was packing my day bag for Oxford, I found a short linen top laying on my bed that I had brought back home with me from school & I threw it in the car just in case it might work with the pants & the jacket. As you would know, this was the top that I wore in every single one of my pictures.... isn't it funny how stuff like that works out?
5:30 pm - Meet Patrick for the first time & start taking photos
Patrick was super friendly from the beginning & made me & Hopper feel like his old friends. We did our picture "warm ups" at The Jefferson before we ventured out into the town of Oxford. I loved our "warm up" session because it affirmed all of my faith I had instilled in Patrick prior to ever meeting him. He worked so well with me & Hopper & literally was able to tell us how to pose. It truly was a blast

5:45 - 8:00 pm - Engagement photo session throughout Oxford
Hopper & I were photographed everywhere. We were photographed inside of The Jefferson, outside of The Jefferson, by a barn on The Jefferson's property, Rowan Oak, & The Square. It has been so fun for us to look back at all of the different pictures in the different locations.

A Few Helpful Tips From This Blushing Bride:
Eat a little something before the session, because you actually will get tired taking pictures for 2 & a half hours (I had a turkey sandwich)
Allow time for people to be late
Check the weather constantly (It was supposed to rain all day the day we got our pictures taken, but God was looking out for us)
Wear white (some people will say otherwise, but I say GO FOR IT)
Don't be afraid to tell people what you like (makeup, style, pictures etc.) *But also trust the artist's creativity*
It's good to use these pictures as a trial run for hair & makeup (you can see how it will all photograph before the big day)
Take pictures in multiple locations (I've loved the different backgrounds in all of our pictures)
If your mom comes, get the photographer to take a picture of you & her... you won't regret it (Patrick thought of it & we loved the pic!)

Have fun & don't sweat the small stuff
Also, shout out to my brother for being the best chauffeur & driving us around in style!

xoxo
